Angel Cottage is a delightful cottage which resides in the village of Boxford; a picturesque Suffolk Village nestled in the Box River valley. Boxford is listed by The Times Travel Magazine as one of the top ten villages in England and is surrounded by lovely Suffolk Countryside, with tight little valleys leading down to the River Stour.

The cottage, which dates back to the early 1500’s, was once used as a Merchants home and double fronted shop. The old spring doorbell above the front door still works if you pull the outside knob!

Angel Cottage sleeps four lucky guests in 2 lovely bedrooms. There are 2 bathrooms, one en-suite, a sunny kitchen breakfast room and a main room with a fabulous Inglenook fireplace, just waiting for you to light a fire.

There is also a large secure and sunny patio at the back of Angel Cottage, with pretty views cross the stream to the countryside beyond. To the left you look across beautiful gardens and some wonderful ancient rooftops to the church.

If you want to explore the countryside on bike, there is a bike shed with bicycles for the use of guests, and a separate passage way to get back onto the road

Well behaved dogs are always welcome, please refer to this page: All About Bringing Pets - for charges, rules and how this cottage may suit your pet.

Cottage Walk Through

  • You enter Angel Cottage directly into the main room with its Massive Inglenook fireplace inviting you to curl up on the big comfy sofa and enjoy this wonderful historic feature. Fuels are supplied by the owner to make a fire, and there are supplies in the cottage to purchase more if required
  • The floor is bare wood with a large rug, which makes it an ideal cottage for guests with dogs
  • To the right of the main room is a bright dining area. The staircase to the first and second floor rises directly from large room
  • There is a low door (watch your head) next to the Inglenook, which leads through to the cosy kitchen breakfast room, with a laundry room beyond and the back door to the sunny patio
  • The owner loves painting, and as the patio is so sunny with such interesting views, she has supplied an easel and drawing materials in case you get the artistic urge
  • The stairs to the first floor are steep so only good for the able bodied
  • Leading off the first floor landing is the main bathroom with a bath and the master bedroom with its' own en-suite bathroom
  • A further staircase leads up to the stunning second bedroom
  • The overall impression of this romantic cottage is of a bold contemporary style, enhancing a wonderful Historic building complete with all its original quirky features

  • If you drag yourself away from the lovely patio, you can have a walk straight from the cottage by walking up the road and taking the first left. There is a footpath meandering down the hedgerow to the river valley where you come to Primrose Woods, which is a wonderful Nature reserve walk along the River Box. There is a map in the cottage with all the lovely walks marked on it, and all the best pubs!
  • Boxford is a particularly pretty Medieval village, and it is a joy to walk around and marvel at all the ancient houses. In the centre is the oldest shop in England, which has a post office and a farm shop come deli in it. There is also a small garage selling petrol in the village which claims to be the oldest Garage in Europe!
  • Boxford also has an excellent butchers, a small general stores, a farm shop / deli, a post office, an award winning beauty clinic, a petrol garage, doctors, 3 great pubs, an excellent Coffee shop and a beautiful Historic Church
  • The Fleece serves great food, has its own brewery, a lovely all weather pub garden and a very pretty William Morris styled tea room
  • Just across the road is The White Hart, which also has a nice area outside to watch the world go by. The pub offers good food and has a very interesting history
  • A previous owner of The White Hart was Tornado Smith, England’s very first Wall of Death daredevil rider who performed this highly dangerous feat in the 1920’s and 30’s with his pet Lioness ‘Briton’ sitting in the passenger seat. In the day, it was not uncommon for villagers to meet Tornado taking his Lion for a walk through the village, and when she sadly died she was buried under the entrance to the pub
  • There is a third pub a short stroll out of the village called The Hare and Hounds which does a good trade in honest pub food
  • At Angel Cottage you will find a cottage map, which has an interesting circular route marked out on it for guests to explore this beautiful part of Suffolk by bike, with some stops at our favourite pubs and restaurants nearby
  • You can find more about the busy little village of Boxford and the what's going on in the local area on the Boxford local area page
